How a University Lecturer is Changing Her Life with Crypto

Aisha is not your average food science lecturer. By day, she’s in the lab with students, and by night, she’s navigating the ups and downs of the crypto world. Her journey started with a scam that wiped out her savings, but she found her way back with Quidax.

Crypto has not only helped her rebuild her finances and support her family, but it’s also inspired her to dream of a future where she can teach others the power of digital finance. In this crypto story, Aisha talks about surviving the “crypto panic” of February 2022, dealing with elder siblings who want overnight crypto success, and her dream of launching a crypto academy.

Good day, ma. Thank you for accepting to speak with us today. Can we get to know you better?

Aisha: My name is Aisha and I’m a food science lecturer at a Federal polytechnic currently pursuing my doctorate degree as well.

Welcome to Inside Life with Quidax, Aisha. We are honoured to have you. First off, let’s talk about the elephant in the room, how does a food science lecturer and doctorate student become a crypto investor? Did you wake up one day and say, “You know what’s missing in my life? Bitcoin?”

Aisha: I ask myself that every day! Honestly, it’s all about trying to level up in life. I’m a goal-getter and I’m never comfortable with the status quo. I’ve always been a hard worker with no social life asides work work work, but somehow it wasn’t reflecting in my finances.

I wanted a way to grow my finances and I discovered crypto. Crypto just fits in naturally with all the plans to elevate my life and family, now it’s a huge part of my life.

Speaking of family, what did they think when you started your crypto journey?

Aisha: Oh, I didn’t tell anyone until I was confident in what I was doing. I used to be very broke and could never contribute to family projects and suddenly, I became the breadwinner. My elder siblings even accused me of stealing the spotlight because now I can drop 5 Naira  before they even ask for 1 Naira.

Wow, they must be so proud of you then

Aisha: It’s actually a drama! My siblings are curious, but they think crypto is some kind of magic ATM. They’ll say, “Aisha, you’re making money, so just tell us which coin to buy and when we’ll make profit.” I keep telling them, “It’s not that simple! Do your research.” But, they don’t listen. They think I’m gatekeeping secrets!

How exactly did you find your way into cryptocurrency? I mean, it’s far off from your current job role.

Aisha: It started out of curiosity actually. Some of my students were always talking about it, and I thought, why not give it a shot? Unfortunately, my first attempt was an expensive lesson.

Whoa, What happened?

Aisha: Well, I joined this Telegram group that promised outrageous returns. I was skeptical, but they were so convincing. I invested my savings, and poof, it was gone. That day, I cried blood, literally.

Wow so sorry about that. But on the good side, crypto has obviously had a big impact on your life, right?

Aisha: Yes! Crypto has been a blessing o. It’s given me financial stability I never thought I’d have. I’ve paid off debts, helped my family, and even started saving for a house. For the first time, I feel like I’m in control of my financial future.

I’m now confident and independent. That’s why I feel like I should  teach others what I’ve learned because in my state here, people don’t really know about crypto investments. But I hesitate because people can be very weird, you know how it is.

Still, I believe crypto is an opportunity many people are missing, especially outside Lagos. My long-term goal is to make crypto education accessible to everyone.

Interesting! We have something just like that. Have you heard of Quidax Academy?

Aisha: Yes yes. That was where I took my first ever crypto course. I even printed my certificate and hung it on the shelf. The academy is a fantastic initiative and it’s what is inspiring me to share the crypto message everywhere.

We are so glad to hear this. What do you tell your people when they ask about getting into crypto?

Aisha: I tell them to start small and learn the basics. I even showed them the courses on Quidax Academy and how it explains things step by step for beginners. But people want shortcuts, they don’t want to put in the work. Crypto is not a lottery ticket. It’s about knowledge, timing, and discipline.

Amazing, you really know your crypto. Would you say you have any regrets in your crypto journey though?

Aisha: Definitely. I can never forget February 2022, my panic sell moment. I sold everything because I heard there was going to be a ban on crypto in Africa and the market would crash. Instead, nothing of such happened. I missed out on so much profit.

But it taught me a valuable lesson which is to never trade or sell in panic or rumours. Now, I stay calm, do my research and trust the process.

Last question. Are you a trader or long term hodler (holder)?

Aisha: I am a mix of both actually. There are some coins that I trade for the short term and there are some that I hodl (hold) for months and years. I read a lot of crypto news and predictions too to be sure I’m not buying the wrong coins.

For example, I’ve bought $BTC since January 2024, and you can bet how much profits I made in December when it hit $100,000.

I know I said “last question” but permit me to ask another one. Speaking of coins, what are the top 5 in your portfolio?

Aisha: Hmm not up to 5 because I like to stay safe.  That’ll be Bitcoin (BTC), Quidax Token (QDX), Dash (DASH) and Tron (TRX).

Aisha, you’ve been so open and insightful. When your siblings are finally ready to try crypto, please let us know, we might want to interview them too!

Aisha: (laughs) If they ever stop asking me for shortcuts, I’ll let you know!
